Mathematical Forecasting Initiative

Mathematical Forecasting Initiative

Long-horizon models of population health, environmental stress, and institutional resilience.

The Mathematical Forecasting Initiative studies how separate pressures can combine into outcomes that no single discipline predicts well.

Scope of the program

Demographic change, environmental pressure, disease, and geopolitical instability are not independent variables. The program supports comparative datasets and long-horizon models that make their assumptions explicit. The aim is a better account of which interventions may change a trajectory.

Current record

In 2026, partner teams are comparing model assumptions and documenting uncertainty before results are used in planning. An early series of model revisions was cataloged under six parameter groups; the archived crosswalk remains under review.

From the historical file

Working paper MFI/74–06 records parameter series 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42. The surviving abstract does not describe the source observations.
